Letter from the Chairs

Welcome to the 109th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade!

The holidays shine brighter in Newport Beach and it promises to be another spectacular year for the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade as we celebrate our 109th anniversary. Hailed by The New York Times as one of the nation’s top 10 holiday happenings, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade has also earned the city a ranking of No. 2 in the nation for holiday lights by Yahoo! Travel. This signature community event draws nearly 1 million viewers to Newport Beach annually.

The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the southern end of Lido Isle. It will open with a spectacular fireworks show launched from the Newport Pier at approximately 6:15 p.m. We are very grateful to the city of Newport Beach for sponsoring this opening night display.

The festivities will run the following four nights at the same time. On the final night, Sunday, Dec. 17, enjoy another fireworks show at approximately 9 p.m., launched from the Balboa Pier, courtesy of the city’s Chamber of Commerce.

Please take a moment to view the parade route map. This year, will feature a new starting point. Parade participants will convene at the southern end of Lido Isle following the same celebrated route as in the past, but with the first public viewing destination now at the new 10.5-acre Marina Park. With the new starting point, the parade will pass homes, businesses, restaurants, yacht clubs and public viewing areas at different times than in previous years.

Marina Park, the city’s newest bayfront park, offers 177 parking spaces, a nautical-themed playground, picnic area and sailing center, and is also the largest public viewing area along the parade route, creating an optimal location to gather and enjoy the festivities. We have also highlighted several locations around the harbor. so visitors will get the best view and find the easiest places to park around town.

The Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade is hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce—a dedicated group of members who provide support for the chamber’s special events. We would like to thank our presenting sponsors, Simple Green, Meguiar’s and Wells Fargo, as well as our community sponsors, the city of Newport Beach and Visit Newport Beach, Inc. They are spectacular sponsors and good friends of this event.

Planning and preparation for this community spectacular is a year-round undertaking. Organized in partnership with Newport Beach & Co., participants and volunteers, thousands of hours are spent arranging the parade components.

Participating in the Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights is a labor of love. Aside from the time decorating their boats, parade participants spend five nights navigating the parade route for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. In addition, homes in the Ring of Lights contest serve as a colorful backdrop, surrounding the harbor to the delight of those both on and off the water. It is a monumental task and every boat and home participant deserves to be congratulated.

With a significant positive financial impact on the city measured in the millions of dollars, especially to its restaurants,
hotels and charters in terms of tourism, hospitality and business during the holiday season, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights continue to be a highlight of the aspirational Newport Beach lifestyle.

Closing out the parade, the Christmas Boat Parade Awards Dinner and Auction will be held Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at the Island Hotel Newport Beach. A fun night of food, wine, dancing and one of the best live and silent auctions of the year; it is also the night we celebrate all of the winners of the 2017 Boat Parade and Ring of Lights.
